Psychiatry is a branch of medicine dealing with a huge range of mental health conditions.
A psychiatrist helps people to manage, treat or recover from Mental Disorders, by drawing on information on your medical/mental health and interpersonal skills. They work with people of all ages and from all walks of life, to provide necessary, individualised treatment and support. The outcome of good treatment provision changes lives.
Mental disorders affect 1 in 4 persons at any one point in their life. No one is immune from mental illness and there is no shame is having a mental disorder. The earlier one seeks appropriate help through a mental health team the quicker and better the outcome and the less time spent suffering.
Evidence-based patient information leaflets are available on almost every mental disorder on the royal college of psychiatrists website, for further information please visit: http://www.rcpsych.ac.uk/healthadvice/atozindex.aspx
